介绍:Hey Hey everyone, so I just went up for my 1st visit up to Cayuga Correctional Facility and I thought I'd share my experience with everyone being that when I came onto this site I couldn't find much about this facility so I thought I'd put my .02 cents in, this way there will be updated information on this facility .... So here I go ....
I'll start with visits ... The visiting center is when you enter the parking lot to the back right ... again like anyone has read about the facility it is based off of the odds and evens system. So if you have an odd DIN number your visit is on the odd day of the weekend .... and same way for even numbers. The visiting center yes opens at 7:00am. They have about 30 lockers inside the visiting center. You go into the visiting center fill out your forms (to visit or leave packages ... money is done before you go through the metal detector) ... On your package bags make sure you put his name and DIN number ... (they don't provide bags for your packages) ... They then call you in to be processed at 8:30am ... and well at least today they were right on the dot ... or well they called for us to go in at 8:28am lol ... So they call your name to go over to the other building to get processed for your visit ... u go there take off all your metals give them ur slips for (packages and visit) .... go through the metal detector .... take ur stuff if u have money they will have the enevople to fill out for it ... (money order is recommened) ... you then go through some gates show your hand that was stamped ... then walk into the visiting room give them ur slip and they'll seat u ... (if you get there early and you are the 1st 10 people to get in and you are going as a single they will seat you on the right site in the single tables (they are small) and RIGHT next to the vending machines so you get to deal with all the traffic of that) ... while you are visiting they will go through your package and if you have any returns they will call your hubbys name out and tell u to come up (in the middle of the visit) they will give u the sheet that says what and why it was returned you sign it and go back to ur visit (pick up the returned iteams after ur visit) ... the COs so far from what i have experienced weren't nice nor mean. They stuck to themselves and just watched i guess. If you want to ask them a question they seem willing to listen and try to help. (so far from what ive seen)
You can bring in jackets to the visiting room .. (it does get a little chilly inside) ... You can bring cards, paper pad, pen/pencil, crayons, coloring paper, pictures ... you can bring a clear see through baggie for your money/change. They have 3 bathrooms in the visiting center and one in the visiting room. So once you are in the visiting room the bathrooms can get pretty busy if the visiting room is busy b/c they have one bathroom for girls and one for boys. They have a play area for children and they seem to allow alot of things in for children the family next to be brought in this blanket for her child to lay on and sleep and she brought in a big baby bag full of stuff. I was told they have 3 "festivals" a year where you can go outside with the inmates and its more layed back you have to buy tickets for these events.
Buses ... well I don't know to much about them being that I drove but the ladies there told me about there being free buses that go up twice a month (those are the days supposedly the visits are crazy busy) and some people took van services up to the facility.
If you do drive though and plan to stay some place. Your best bet is to stay in Cortland or McGraw. Cortland has alot of hotels. Comfort Inn, Hampton Inn, Quality Inn, Holiday Inn, Echno Lodge and a bunch more. I heard they have a lot of little motels there as well but from what I have heard not so nice. One man told me he stayed at one and they had bed bugs. So if i were you i'd try to stay at one of the "chain inn's" rather then the independent motels.
The place isn't so bad for a prison I guess. The CO's are alright and the visits are alright being that its a prison. I'll just to update this thread as I learn more about this place. any questions just message me!!
