How to adjust your glasses, read this enough!
If your eyeglasses are worn for a long time, there might be problems such as the frame falling down, the deformation of the bridge of the nose pads, and the uncomfortable earpiece of the glasses.
You can bring the glasses to the optometrist for adjustment, or follow the steps I'm sharing now to adjust them yourself.
First step:
Determine where to adjust
1. Stand in front of the mirror and look straight ahead.
Let the centre of the lens be in the centre of the eye. This point is the optical centre and the ideal location for the glasses, so any adjustment to the glasses should be based on this position.
If you wear a bifocal lens, this line should be flush with the lower eyelid, if it is a trifocal lens, align the top line with the bottom of the pupil.
2. Check for the actual problems.
If the glasses are bent or tilted to one side, it may be caused by the bending of the temples. The method of testing the temples is to place the glasses on a flat surface. Normally, each temple should be placed flat. If not, you will need to adjust them.
If the glasses are flat on the face but curved on a flat surface, it may indicate that one of your ears is taller than the other, so you need to adjust the temples to accommodate different ear heights.
3. See if there is any problem with the bridge.
Observe the height when the glasses are worn. If the lens is too high or too low, it may be caused by the bridge. You will need to adjust this part.
4. Check for problems with squeezing or slipping.
Even if the glasses are in the centre and at the right height, they may be too loose or too tight. You can adjust the temples as needed to adjust the tightness of the glasses and adjust the position from the hinges. Bending the temples outwards reduces the pressure on the head or temples, and bending inwards allows the glasses to fit the head.
5. Look for the location where it slipped.
You may find that the glasses will slip down even though they look good elsewhere. If this is the case, simply adjust the screws that connect the temples to the lens.二:Second step
Make adjustments
1. Balance the frame.
The temple extends from the top to the back of the ear to hold the frame in place. In addition to determining where you need to adjust, consider the difference in style of the glasses and the different frame material, the method of correction will also be different.
The frame can be slowly adjusted with small pliers until the frame is straight. After wearing glasses, look in the mirror to see if they are normal.
Do not use wire cutters as this may damage the frame. Padded pliers must be used.
For plastic frames, it should be heated with a warm air blower to soften the plastic. Then slowly adjust it by hand until it is in the correct position. Be careful to use a hairdryer to prevent the plastic from melting.
Another way to bend the plastic frame is to use hot water for about 20 seconds before making adjustments. At this time, the frame will become flexible and easy to adjust, but be careful because the plastic is easily broken at high temperatures.
2. Adjust the temple section.
Check the degree of bending of the temple part. If the glasses are too close to the ears and the sides of the head, bend the temples outwards; if the glasses are too loose, slide them off the nose and bend the temples inward. The actual operation still depends on the type of eyeglass frame.
Adjust the frame with pliers, just by hand.
For plastic frames, before bending the temples, use hot water or steam to soften the plastic.
3. Tighten the screws on both sides of the temple.
This prevents the glasses from slipping off the nose and secures the lens in the frame. A small screwdriver is required to perform these tasks and is usually found in standard eyeglass cleaning and repair kits.
Do not screw the screws too tightly as this may damage the plastic or metal parts that are being fixed.
4. Fix the nose pads so that they are more comfortable to wear.
If the position of the glasses on the face is too high, then the nose pads should be separated again; if the glasses are too low, pinch the nose pads in the middle. In order to keep the glasses symmetrical, try to ensure that the nose pads on both sides are bent together or equally spaced.
TIPS:
Do not destroy the glasses
1. Do some fine-tuning.
Do not make large adjustments to the glasses at once. It is often more difficult to adjust the glasses back to the proper position after the repair. Fine-tune first, then check the glasses, then continue fine-tuning until completely corrected.
2. Do not break your glasses.
When repairing the plastic frame, the action should be gentle and do remember the heated plastic is easier to be broken.
3. Take precautions.
When adjusting the spectacle frame with pliers, the end of the pliers can be wrapped with tape to avoid permanent scratching of the spectacle frame. These scratches cannot be repaired, and even if the glasses are suitable for wearing, they will be as unsightly as a bite mark by a dog.
4. Know your own frame.
Some styles of lenses are made from non-adjustable materials. For example, a frame made of titanium, shape memory alloy or aluminium alloy cannot be deformed and adjusted.
5. Know when to abandon your glasses.
Although it is possible to make simple adjustments at home to get the glasses back to normal, sometimes it is wise to buy a pair of new glasses. If you have made multiple adjustments to the frame, nose pads or temples, but the glasses are still not suitable, it is time to make a decision to buy a pair of new glasses after wearing the old one for years. Besides, it is recommended that the eye be inspected at least once a year to ensure that the degree of the lens is consistent with your vision.
